CHALLENGE
Design an urban intervention for Corpoguajira as part of an energy compensation project by the private company ElecNorte. The design was part of a larger plan for the restoration of the wetland "Laguna la Salá," led by Equilibra Sustainability Consultants, which incorporated various disciplines and specialties. The restoration included preventing recurring annual floods and improving abandoned and invaded areas that had been cut off from the city, which had contributed to insecurity and social issues.
STRATEGY
The urban intervention was envisioned as a dual-purpose ring. On the technical side, it functioned as a water dam to prevent flooding during the rainy season and as a perimeter circulation route that articulated the linear proposal. This design allowed the inner ring to flood seasonally, meaning that these areas could shift their use from dry to water activities. Additionally, the ring connected a series of passive and active recreational areas. The program was the result of a major participatory event designed and facilitated by MAPP.
